You, Me, Empathy - Episode 90: Therapy Is Cool with Dr. Christina Iglesia

On Episode 90 of You, Me, Empathy, Dr. Christina Iglesia and I explore how she brings human-ness into her work as a therapist, the familial mental health struggles that inspired her to go into psychology, and her super inspiring mental health action campaign, #TherapyIsCool!

We kick off the show talking about why we—us people pleasers, us empaths, us feely humans—need balance in order to take care of ourselves. We talk about the cultural silliness that leads the general public to believe that therapists are somehow superhuman and without fallibility. Dr. Christina talks about taking a stand against that by showing her humanity and vulnerability in her therapy practice, flaws and all.

We then gab about identity, and how we as humans tend to want to control our identities, but the reality is that there’s so much more fruitfulness in accepting the shift, accepting the change, and giving ourselves compassion throughout that process. We talk about the barriers to entry for therapy, why therapy is for everyone, and the amazing mental health action campaign Dr. Christina created called #TherapyIsCool.
