On Episode 59 of You, Me, Empathy, I’m grateful to share space with my little brother, Tannen, to explore his emotional experience with schizophrenia as an abusive relationship, sobriety, and the day to day highs and lows of mental illness.

Tannen shares his relationship to his diagnosis schizophrenia, or schizoaffective disorder specifically, the messages he receives through license plates and the media, and how he copes with the voices and his belief that the government has control over his life.

We also talk about Tannen’s sobriety and addiction to substances, including alcohol and Adderall. We explore the beauty of therapy as a way to allow us feely humans to think outside of our heads. And we talk about religion and mental illness, and Tannen’s relationship with god.

I’m so proud of my brother. If you feel it in your heart to send Tannen a warm thought or hug gif, please do!
