You, Me, Empathy - Episode 58: Hi, How Are You? with Courtney Blanton

On Episode 58 of You, Me, Empathy, I ask myself and my guest, Courtney Blanton, Hi, How Are You? And I mean it! We also explore medication stigma, healing through education, and the origins of the Hi, How Are You Project.

You know how, when you’re walking a public street, and you hear a passerby say, “how are you?”, it’s less a legitimate interest in your wellbeing, and more just a common refrain of the busy and uninterested? We’ve all experienced that, on both sides! Today’s guest, Courtney Blanton, is passionate about changing that. She wants a world where authentic curiosity and concern for our fellow feely humans reigns.

That’s why she, along with her partner Tom, have co-created the Hi, How Are You Project, a nonprofit organization inspiring new conversations around mental health issues by funding and creating thoughtful media content, projects, and events. The Foundation, created with the support of Daniel Johnston and Family, provides a platform for the exchange of ideas and education on mental well-being.

In addition to that, we talk about the gut and brain connection, stigma and shame in medication, the MTHFR (“motherfucker”) gene (both Courtney and I share that in common!), the healing that comes through curiosity and educating ourselves, self-worth, and reminding ourselves that we are enough.

Have you asked “Hi, How Are You?” today? Get out there, with your big feely heart, and mean it!
